Tame Your First Horse is a tutorial quest that introduces the horse taming minigame. Kliff travels to Deepfog Basin in Hernand, where wild horses roam, and must follow the taming process to obtain his first mount. Completing the quest unlocks all horse-related mechanics.

The taming minigame requires careful timing on the lasso throw and steady input during the calming phase, but players who fail are immediately allowed to retry with no penalty, so there is no pressure to perform perfectly on the first attempt. A useful tip is to approach horses from downwind and crouch to reduce the detection radius, which allows a closer starting position and a more forgiving lasso angle. The horse obtained during this quest has randomized stats, so players who are min-maxing may want to note that returning to Deepfog Basin later to tame additional horses with potentially better stat rolls is always an option. Beyond unlocking mounted traversal, completing this quest also enables horse equipment crafting at any smithy, access to mounted combat tutorials, and the ability to stable and swap between multiple horses at camp, making it one of the most mechanically impactful quests in the entire early game.
